About Eric

Humble Beginnings

Eric grew up in a working class neighborhood, the son of a single parent who worked two jobs to survive.  He enrolled in Head Start as a child, which taught him that hard work and quality education are the keys to success in life.  Today, Eric, his wife Kim, and his son Lucas live in the same Barelas neighborhood where he grew up.  His family has been in New Mexico for six generations.

A Champion for the Common Good

Eric has earned a reputation as a reformer and a fighter for the common good. On the Albuquerque City Council, he led the fight to pass sweeping campaign and ethics reforms, minimum wage increase, and was a fierce advocate for smart growth.  As a State Senator, Eric passed a green jobs bill. He is known as a passionate advocate for investing in clean energy to create jobs and fighting for working families against powerful special interests.

A Leader in Creating Jobs

Eric has helped grow New Mexico’s economy by serving as Chairman of the State Economic Development Commission and as Assistant Cabinet Secretary for the State Economic Development Department. He’s proposed a jobs plan that builds America’s energy, technology and transportation systems. His plan reduces the tax burden on middle class families, while eliminating the Bush tax cuts for millionaires and closing tax loopholes for Big Oil.

Fighting for Our Democratic Values

Eric will fight Republican attempts to balance the budget on the backs of middle class families.  He opposes any cuts to Social Security and Medicare and will ensure our veterans get the benefits they have earned and deserve.  He’s earned a 100% rating from Conservation Voters New Mexico and will continue holding big polluters accountable.  And Eric will continue fighting to protect a woman’s right to choose and for equality for all.
